The reading file activity takes the form of a journal which records the time taken to read a file. It can be used whenever a large number of documents are to be read as part of a single process.

When configured correctly, the reading file activity "enslaves" the reading document activity - that is, journals for the latter will not be started. Instead, each document which is read will appear on the reading file journal's "more activities..." list, with the document number and start time marked for each.

In addition to reducing clutter within the program, the reading file activity helps to create a more accurate picture of the time billed for the exercise.
