In ContactsLaw, a user-defined activity can be created to model a business process that takes place outside of the program or one that is completely manual. Depending on the configuration of the activity, it may present itself as:
(If a fixed charge is associated with the activity, it will be posted upon completion.)

Some common examples of user-defined activities include:
  • Opening and processing incoming mail
  • Conducting research
  • Spending time off-site for banking, etc
User-defined activities can also be used to aggregate existing activities in ContactsLaw. For instance, rather than completing a separate journal for each reading document activity, a user-defined activity (that acts as a master over the reading document activity) could be run for the length of the entire exercise, capturing the total time spent reading.
