The Practice tab (or "Company tab" for subsidiary companies) represents all of the functionality in ContactsLaw that allows for the company to be managed, monitored and analysed as a whole. While contact and file tabs are concerned with a limited, focused scope, The Practice deals in an overall view of the system. As such, it provides:
- Company information
- Operating hours, holidays, credit card policies, logo, etc
- Company-wide configuration
- Company-level operations
- Banking
- General ledger accounting
- Trust accounting
- Management of archived/active files and packets
- GST/BAS
- Company-level reports
- Key financial reports (balance sheet, profit and loss, etc)
- Payroll reports
- Trust account reports
- Analysis and business intelligence features
All members have access to the summary screen of The Practice tab, but further access is controlled through permissions. In a medium to large firm, few members will have access to the management settings available on the tab. While the general and trust banking (and payroll) features are part of the day-to-day operation of the practice, access is generally restricted to a book-keeper role. Document production and workgroup managers will have appropriate access to those areas of the business over which they have control.
Note: Due to overheads associated with loading the large number of tabs and views on The Practice tab, ContactsLaw keeps the information on the tab in memory, even after the tab is closed. Closing and re-opening the tab will not, therefore, cause the information to be refreshed. |
