The Cloud storage integration plug-in for ContactsLaw addresses the problems associated with large e-mail attachments by offering the option to upload the document(s) to a cloud-based storage service (such as DropBox), or to an FTP server.

This behaviour is controlled by setting a threshold size (in megabytes) beyond which the service will be used. Instead of attaching the documents to the e-mail, an HTML file (webpage) containing links to the document(s) will be sent with it. An additional setting controls the number of days before the links expire (at which time the attachments are deleted from the server).

Note: The built-in ZIP compression feature takes precedence over this behaviour, thus ContactsLaw will upload a ZIP file instead of the individual documents if there are too many attachments.

Each member who uses the cloud storage features must separately configure the plug-in with a DropBox account and complete the authorisation process. If an FTP server is being used, the server settings are configured at the practice level; however the username and password must be set on a per-user basis. If no cloud storage service is configured, ContactsLaw will revert to its default behaviour for handling e-mail attachments.

The plug-in will create its own folder structure on the server and will not interfere with any files outside this location.
