In ContactsLaw, theĀ file summary tab summarises the information held by the practice about a file. It is the starting point for all file-level actions, and is designed to present the information in the most concise, relevant manner possible.

Sections

  • Client(s) - Lists the primary client, followed by any other clients for the matter. Click the heading to manage the clients.
  • File - Summarises the file by displaying the matter, department and workgroup, court (if applicable), supervisor and manager members, file liaision (if applicable), the type of file (electronic or paper) and details about when the file was created, closed, archived, etc.
  • Billing - Describes how the file is billed. Includes the bill-to contact, the client's reference (if applicable), the billing scale and the details of any cost agreement or quote.
  • Notes - Freeform, formatted notes that are of direct relevance to everyone reading the file. Detailed notes should be journalled or registered as documents.
  • Workgroup fields - Shows the values for any fields defined on the file's workgroup.
  • Related files - Lists all matters related to the current file. Click the title to associate another matter with the file.
  • Distribution list - Displays the contacts/members who will receive copies of documents registered to the file.
  • Other parties - Lists all non-client parties associated with the file, including their roles and representatives.
  • Third parties - Lists the third party contacts associated with the file, including their industry/position.

Actions

  • Permissions - Manages the permissions governing the file and its documents.
  • Archive - Starts or resumes the file archival activity, or allows the file to be unarchived.
  • Reading journal - Starts the file reading activity, which allows all file-related activities to be aggregated under a single time record.
  • New bill - Starts the billing activity. Can also be used to post upfront bills.
  • Print file label - Starts the document creation activity and selects the File label controlled template.
  • Delete - Allows an unused file to be completely removed for the system, or displays reasons why a file cannot be deleted.
