In various parts of ContactsLaw, there are settings which control the data entry of GST amounts on transactions and lines of transactions.  The settings can be used to configure the default behaviour of items such as disbursement journals, fixed charges and lines on general transactions.  This also helps to prevent guesswork by the user.

Typically, the settings are:

  • Prohibited - The GST component will be $0.00 and cannot be changed.  The net and the total amounts will be the same.
  • Not suggested - The GST component will be $0.00 by default, but can be changed in exceptions (where the transaction should contain GST).
  • Suggested - The GST component will be suggested to be 10% (*) of the net entered or 1/11 of the total entered, but can be adjusted in exceptions.
  • Mandatory - The GST component is always calculated to be 10% of the net amount for the transaction and cannot be altered.

* At the time of writing, this was the GST rate; if different, transaction activities will use the configured GST rate.
