In ContactsLaw, it is possible to assign a member category to one or more members for the purposes of a bill of costs. A category consists of a descriptive name and a short abbreviation/code.

It is possible to specify the maximum rate per hour for a category across each billing scale. This information can be used in document creation.

Category membership is dynamic; a full history of the categories to which members belong over time is retained. Depending on the member's category membership for a particular date range, they may be assigned different categories for billing purposes. (However, a member may only belong to one category at a time.) If a member changes category within a particular billing period, the change (including any associated rate change) will be noted on the bill of costs.
