In ContactsLaw, transit cheques (or third-party cheques) are held by the practice, with both the drawer and payee being some third party. They are held pending the outcome of a matter or for some other special purpose. They have no general or trust ledger effect since they are never banked.

They have the following properties:
  • Related file
  • Cheque type (cheque or bank cheque)
  • Received from / drawer (if different)
  • BSB, bank, branch and account number
  • Payee / endorsed to (if different)
  • Amount
  • Purpose
  • Related document
You can optionally specify a packet in which the cheque is stored until such a time that it is released. In the absence of a packet number, ContactsLaw assumes the cheque is stored with the file.

ContactsLaw records when transit cheques are released, and to whom. Deletion is provided to correct mistakes only. If any unreleased cheques are present upon file archival, a warning prompt is issued to the member.

Transit cheques can be viewed from the ledgers on a file or from The Practice.

Recording a transit cheque is considered an activity with a single-step workflow, and is therefore governed by workflow permissions. After the cheque is initially recorded, it is subject to the "Transit cheques" record type permission category.
