ContactsLaw supports user-definable types of dates, which can be used in document creation and cataloguing. They allow a meaningful label to be attached to a date value. Dates, along with roles and fields, represent the most critical information that can be used to describe a document or file.

Date types optionally allow you to capture the time of day, as well as a related member (typically for auditing purposes). You can have the user specify these values during creation/cataloguing, or you can use a document workflow to set a particular date/member combination (e.g. stamping the document with a 'signed' date, along with the member responsible).

Modifying date types

When you rename or merge date types, ContactsLaw will automatically update any references to the date type in document types and templates. However, if the name of the date type has been changed, you will need to manually update document description expressions that reference it.
