In ContactsLaw, members are assigned to one or more groups. These are used as a means of classification, as well as to determine the set of permissions governing the member's use of ContactsLaw.
 
In a number of areas within the application, members are arranged by group. If a member belongs to multiple groups, they will appear under their primary group. The primary indicator has no other function in ContactsLaw.
 
Unless overridden, members receive the superset of permissions from the groups they belong to. Adding/removing members from a group may affect their permissions. At any point, a member's permissions can be reset to reflect those of their group(s).
 
In many of the workflow features, tasks can be delegated to a group rather than a specific member. Only those groups marked with the 'delegation' indicator may be used for this purpose. This allows business policies to become role-oriented (rather than person-oriented), protecting against changes to individual staff members.
 
Groups can also be marked with the 'calendar' indicator; this allows other members to view the appointments delegated to that particular group via the calendar view.
