ContactsLaw installs quickly and seamlessly onto client PCs via ClickOnce Deployment, from a intranet site hosted on the application server. This intranet site is automatically updated and maintained via Overtech's DDM system.
First-time setup of the server components of ContactsLaw is, however, a manual process which is usually completed by a technician. The process loosely involves:
- Installing and configuring the DDM Windows Service on the ContactsLaw application server.
- Creating and configuring the document library on the document server. This process includes the installation of the DMIS Web Service if it is not already installed.
- Deploying a blank version of the ContactsLaw database on the application server.
- Running the first-time setup wizard in ContactsLaw while logged in as the system administrator member.
- Configuring the practice and creating members in order to allow work to commence.
- Importing contacts, files, transactions, documents and other records from a previous system. The schedule for data migration will depend upon the volume of data to be imported, as well as the implementation strategy (direct-cut, parallel, etc).
